How to survive work stress to start the year stress-free
As the new year rolls in, those who work in finance, accounting, auditing world, know this is the busy season. Working in consulting for the last 17 years taught me one thing about this time of the year. And that is, say goodbye to social life!
"It is not the of the world."
The following are 3 steps that I took to help me disconnect to ‘connect’ all these years. You know, just to keep my sanity.
Get up from your desk every hour and walk around. It may seem weird at first but you just have to get your arse off that chair and walk. Walk to the coffee machine or walk around the building. Take a walk up a couple of flights of stairs. You need to have your blood flowing to keep yourself #energized. Of course, 2020 forced many of us to work from home, if you are #workingremotely or from home, take a walk outside your house/building.
OK this is not a cliché but phone a friend or family member. Either you are working from the office or from home, take time to disconnect to connect. We need to have a few moments to connect with our close friends or family to bring some reality back. Work can be a reality but your company will always be there if you are no longer here. Your family and close friends will be missed if they are not around anymore. Keep this in mind. So take a break and call them and speak for few minutes to connect your reality.
This one kind of relates to the mindset from above. You need to shift your mind and understand that it is not the end of the world if you miss your deadline. Your world will not end and your company will not go belly up if you miss your deadline. It may take some time to complete a task but remember you have a life of your own.
There you have it. These are the 3 things I do and remind myself at work to feel alive and not glued to my desktop. There are more ways to check in when you get stressed at work, these are the 3 things that helped me along the way.
